How to add audio snippets for releases

Add audio snippets and increase listenership and sales

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Adding snippets to your releases not only gives sales a significant boost but also contributes to building the Common Ground snippet library for all users - so feel free to add as many as you can.

Fetch existing snippets from the database

Snippets are automatically added to a release if these two conditions are met :

  • The release is linked to a Discogs release ID.

  • Snippets for the release have already been uploaded to Common Ground.

If it's a new release, or they otherwise don't yet exist on Common Ground, you can upload snippets yourself.

Uploading new snippets to a release

To upload audio snippets to a release:

  1. Open a release page and click on Edit item

  2. Scroll down to Tracklist

  3. Drag and drop files from your computer, or click where it says Drop Snippet Here

  4. Save item

πŸ›ŽοΈ Reminder: Size limit for each file is 5 MB. Track duration is between 30 seconds to 1 minute maximum.

πŸ“ Note: Uploaded music previews are made available to all shops on Common Ground making it the largest snippet library available to record stores and distributors. While all platform users will have access to uploaded audio previews, it is not possible to delete snippets manually.

Snippet / content fetching limitations

Some websites implement additional security measures that block automated access to their content.

This means that while it's possible to manually access and download files like MP3s or images via a public URL, external services β€” such as our CSV import method β€” may be unable to fetch this content consistently through automated backend processes.

In these cases, you'll need to manually download the files and upload them to the according release.

The CSV importer cannot fetch files from web-based links such as Dropbox or Google Drive. For best results, use direct file URLs hosted on a personal server or FTP.
